About Me

Jessi Petman

C.E.M.T.  V.R.T.  E.C.A.T

" I have always had a love and connection with horses, and I wanted to be a healer.

That is why this is so much more than a career to me. This is my passion."

It has always been my dream to be a Naturopathic Equine Practitioner.

My official education began at the University of Guelph in their Equine Science program, providing me with the necessary foundations and knowledge to move forward into my specialty.

I continued with that passion and have since earned my certificate in Equine Massage Therapy, as well as Vertebral Realignment and Joint Play (Chiropractic Corrections), from The School of Equine Massage and Rehabilitation Therapy.

Especially being family-oriented and a mom to two amazing (and might I add also horse-crazy) girls, I believe learning and education should never stop. I am currently pursuing my Equine Acupuncture Diploma through the International College of Animal Therapies, and I will be constantly updating my knowledge, working to add new therapy options, and striving to offer the best quality therapeutic services possible.

From a young age I was fascinated by anatomy and how regular plants could help different ailments. I also had an unbridled (haha) passion for horses, and I wanted to help and heal. These passions progressed as I got older.

My grandfather Dr. C.L. Cook, may he rest in peace, was a large animal veterinarian. He fostered and fed my passion, allowing me to learn everything I could from him. I started at Guelph University, the same university he attended, after he passed away. But even still he was there guiding me through the footnotes he wrote throughout his veterinary textbooks that I kept at my side.

My belief in alternative therapies was greatly increased after I experienced the onset of an illness called Myalgic Encephalomyelitis at only 12 years old. It took years before I had a diagnosis, and in the meantime, I was left with a myriad of symptoms, no answers, and no relief with conventional medications. During these years I spent a lot of time in bed reading and researching everything I could to do with naturopathic medicine.

Don't get me wrong, conventional medicine plays a vital role in proper care, and lead me to a diagnosis. I hold a lot of respect for it, but it is not always the only option.

For me, a holistic approach including massage, chiropractic adjustments, acupuncture, herbal remedies, and nutrition drastically improved my condition. It is thanks to the management of my illness through these therapies that I am able to live a full life doing what I love.

Knowing how life-changing these therapies and a holistic approach have been to me have only fueled my passion more, and made me more dedicated to learning everything I can to help and to heal.
